He needed a mouth FULL, FULL, FULL of God's Word.
Joshua 1:1-81 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying:
2 "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them--the children of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
When God created Adam, He created him a living speaking spirit, just like Himself.
The way God CREATED was with His Words, you know, like "LIGHT BE!"
The power of God's Words was passed along to human when He created Adam. God made us in HIS IMAGE. He is speaking creating Spirit, so are we.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."
Our mouth creates death or it creates life.
If we look around us, we are and have the result of what we have spoken.
"You know, heart trouble is what Daddy had, so you know it's in the family, and I probably have that to look forward to."
"Grandpa had arthritis so it's hereditary."
"That boy is JUST LIKE his Dad, bad temper and all."
"Well, you know how it goes, there's never enough money at the end of the month."
"I'm afraid that girl will never amount to anything much, she's just not motivated."
"Well, you know how it is....like mother like daughter!"
"Anger and rage is deeply embedded in this family and no matter what I do, it seems like there's no getting rid of it."
"Stupid is as stupid does."
"She's nothing but a slut."
"He just hops from one girl to the next, God only knows how many STD's he's got."
Every one of us are speaking what we believe. We may not be believing God's Word, but we're speaking what we believe nonetheless. It would benefit us to be agreeing with God's Word.
Isaiah told us in chapter 55 that God's Word would accomplish what it is sent to do and would not return to Him void, but would accomplish all that it is intended to. We are and we have WHAT WE SAY.
MY GOD HELP US to go finding out what HE has to say and to start agreeing with HIM.
Romans 10:8,9...
8 what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
9 that if you
confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
These are the same principles that we were shown in Romans about our own salvation. The same way we get salvation, is the same way we get everything else we need from God. By BELIEVING what He said and SPEAKING it. Agreeing with God.
Hebrews 11:3 says: Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the
word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Romans 4:17 says:
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
II Corinthians 4:13 says:
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.
Joshua had a BIG JOB, and some very big shoes to fill. He had to get his eyes on God and follow HIS instructions.
It wasn't something vain God told Joshua.....
vs. 8 This Book of the Law
shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
It's also instructions for US.
God knows that if we don't have His Word in front of our eyes and in our heart that we'll be speaking the problem and not the answer.
He's getting Joshua's attention onto the ANSWER. We need to get our attention on the answers for our lives....our eyes on the answers to problems in our lives..... when our eyes and our mouths are on God's solutions, we are speaking those things that are not as though they were, and are putting LIFE in our mouth.
I want to make my way prosperous.
I want to have good success.
I don't want to be one that produces a curse.
Father, I ask You to
HELP US keep Your Word in front of our eyes and in our mouths, to be agreeing with YOU not the circumstances we are all facing. Joshua was filling some big shoes after Moses left, and Your counsel to us is the same that You gave him. That Your Word not depart from our mouths. Father HELP US to keep Your Word in our hearts, and in our mouths. Help us to choose LIFE and not death, and MAKE OUR WAY prosperous and have good success, by agreeing with You. In Jesus' Name.
