Rebel against the Word of God and Dispise His Counsel.

Psalm 107:10-15
10 Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Bound in affliction and irons--
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High,
12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor; They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their chains in pieces.
15 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

What intrests me most about this passage of Scripture is verse 11.
11 "Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High"

1. folks setting in darkness
2. in the shadow of death.
3. bound in affliction
4. bound in irons

Why?
1. they rebelled against the words of God
2. despised the counsel of the Most High.

Bondage of any kind is from hell.

There have been times that I've found myself in such bad situations. You?
Whether we're Believers or not, the consequences of rebelling against God's Word, whether written or spoken and despising the counsel of the Most High, are really serious.

Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death. This is not JUST for the unbeliever, sin works death in EVERYBODY. Romans was a letter wroten to the Body of Christ.

You know what James said....

James 1:12-16
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

Verse 13 of Psalm 107 tells us that when "they" cried out to the Lord in their trouble, He saved them from their distresses.

Vs. 14 says that He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their chains in pieces.

Vs 15 then says: Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

GOD IS SO WONDERFUL!!!

This passage in Psalm 107 is full of hope and deliverance, for all of us, and is a strong reminder that we SHOULD NEVER rebel against the Word or the counsel of God.

Father, HELP US to hold in highest regard for Your Word, both written and spoken, and that we NEVER rebel against Your counsel, in the Name of Jesus.

I've been reading through the Old Testament again recently. There's nothing like reading how serious God takes their sin and our sin, and about His abundant mercy towards the Israelites and us.

What shall we do then when the spoken word is counter to the written Word of God? We must always weigh the spoken against the written Word. God is not a two faced god. He is the same God today as was yesterday. Therefore if the spoken word is counter to God's written Word, we must reject that which was spoken. By accepting any word, we open ourselves to the deceit, that the devil places always before us.

I agree, the written Word is always the plumbline to all our hearts. There is a letter of the law, and the letter of the Spirit. We've seen the letter of the law weiled and it brings condemnation and carnage, not conviction and repentance and wholeness. There is a difference.

If we have discernment of God's Spirit, we'll not be fooled by whispers from hell. The Word of God tells us that we are the sons of God if we are led by His Spirit.

God HELP US ALL.

While I've thought about your response, I've also remembered that we've seen the "religious" community hold the Word of God to bludgeon people into submission...and to KEEP people in bondage.
The Word of God should never be used like that. We often forget that the devil knows the Script inside and out, and just how to bring about his desired effect.
If we are not grounded in God's Word, and make it FIRST for all of our life, EVERY day of our lives, it could be that we'd be easily fooled also.
We've seen that when people weild the Word to bludgeon others it's only because that they themselves have not washed themselves with the water of the Word over their own lives, and expect much from others with a judgmental, condemning eye.
God Help us to walk in His Spirit. God knows our hearts and what a contrite humble heart sounds like to Him. He knows when we are crying out to Him with our whole heart, and there we'll be met by Him.
